Ankle sprains are caused by twisting motion of the ankle usually from improper shoes or sports related injury. We’ve all had ankle sprains at one point or another and usually they get better with rest and ice. However, in instances of severe ankle sprain you should seek the medical treatment from a podiatrist. At Northeastern Foot & Ankle we fully assess all of our ankle sprains with digital x rays, ultrasound, muscle and range of motion testing. This is to ensure there isn’t any more damage than just an ankle sprain, such as ligament tears, fractures, or damage to the cartilage of the ankle joint. Upon completion of your examination, we will come up with a treatment plan to help reduce your pain, swelling, and get you back up on your feet as soon as possible.
